The Mold Removal Process

The mold remediation process will differ in scope and duration depending on the unique conditions of your property.  The process to remove mold from an attic, basement or crawl space differs in scope and technique and depending on the situation the entire mold removal process can take a few days or longer.

Don’t be alarmed when you see our mold remediation experts arriving in white suits, respirators, booties, goggles and other safety equipment. This doesn’t necessarily mean we are removing toxic mold – this is simply standard practice in the industry and helps protect our workers.

  • Step 1: We get at the root of the problem by identifying the moisture source and cut off the mold’s lifeline to deter the problem from happening again.  Most mold removal companies do not address the root of the problem.  We take our certifications and ethical standards seriously and ensure that the actual problem is being addressed and not just cleaned up.

  • Step 2: We take steps to protect the home and the safety of it’s occupants

  • Step 3: We use a professional grade biocide to kill the mold spores. We use an FDA approved biocide that begins killing mold spores on contact.  Depending on the size and scope of the problem, the biocide may need to work it’s magic over several hours to be fully effective.

  • Step 4: The mold is encapsulated using an FDA approved agent specifically designed for this purpose. The encapsulating agent traps the dead mold spore completely robbing them of air and moisture.  We treat the area affected by the mold directly and the surrounding areas to ensure that mold does not spread to adjacent walls or floor boards.

How do I know if I need mold testing in my home?

Mold testing may be recommended if you notice a musty odor, visible discoloration on surfaces, recent water damage, elevated indoor humidity, or unexplained allergy-like symptoms. Professional mold testing can identify the presence of mold, determine the type of contamination, and help locate hidden mold growth that may not be visible during a standard inspection.

What is the difference between mold testing and mold remediation?

Mold testing is the process of evaluating a property for mold growth and collecting samples to determine mold levels and types. Mold remediation is the process of safely removing mold contamination and addressing the moisture source that caused it. Testing helps identify the problem, while remediation focuses on correcting it and preventing future growth.

Is mold dangerous to my health?

Certain types of mold can contribute to respiratory irritation, allergy symptoms, headaches, and other health concerns, particularly for individuals with asthma, allergies, compromised immune systems, children, and older adults. While not all mold is considered toxic, any indoor mold growth should be addressed promptly to protect both your property and indoor air quality.

How long does mold remediation take?

The timeline for mold remediation depends on the size of the affected area, the extent of contamination, and the repairs needed to correct the moisture source. Smaller projects may be completed within a day or two, while larger remediation projects involving crawlspaces, attics, or significant water damage can take several days or longer. A professional inspection can provide a more accurate timeline.

Will mold come back after it has been removed?

Mold can return if the underlying moisture issue is not properly corrected. Effective mold remediation includes identifying and addressing water intrusion, leaks, drainage problems, humidity issues, or crawlspace moisture concerns. When the moisture source is eliminated and the affected areas are properly treated, the risk of mold returning is significantly reduced.
